Tree Removal

The commonest request for tree work is for a tree removal. This will be done if we are satisfied that there is no TPO on the tree & it is not in a conservation area.

All living things have a finite life & in taking a tree down which is nearing the end of it's life, you are taking a responsible attitude to a potential problem.

In making the decision to remove a tree, a key factor is the risk of damage / injury, even loss of life, if it came down by itself. Some of the worlds most interesting trees, are interesting because they are very old. They often have massive cavities in the trunks but they soldier on for hundreds, even thousands of years if they have enough space to live - & to die naturally. Fortingall Yew

This Wellingtonia in Fife was unusual in having a couple of rivals! One is actually a sucker of the main tree. The Council had to be consulted but it was decided that though it was unusual - in itself something worth preserving, the detrimental affect of the smaller shoots on the main tree meant they should be removed.

The first of the rival stems is removed...

Right: The dramatic silhouette of a single Wellingtonia is hard to match. This image doesn't do the tree justice. It was taken as the light was going after a long day.

Below: The scale is revealed by Dave's head poking out from the back of the tree.

Right: The stump is taken down to the ground level. Machines are available if nessesary to completely remove the stump. Stump Grinders 'chip' the main stump to below ground level, or a JCB can rip out the entire stump. Here though, one must be careful of underground services & disposal is not so easy.

Here a X Cupressocyparis leylandii tree is carefully felled over a fence & between two houses.

A small job but it still requires great care.
