Preservation Orders (PTO) & Conservation Areas |
| |
These
orders are put on a specimen tree or group of trees by the local
Council. This could include trees within your private property.
You must by law contact the local authority if you wish to do ANY
work to a tree under TPO or in a Conservation Area. Both the client
& contractor are responsible for respecting TPOs.They are usually
very helpful for requests about maintenance & dangerous trees.
It is best to get written confirmation to avoid any doubt about
consent.
These
orders are important in conserving particularly valuable trees
which are enjoyed by the whole community, sometimes for literally
hundreds of years, from being felled or ruined by insensitive
pruning often in a moment of madness.

If you are unsure
as to whether you live in a conservation area, or your trees have Preservation
Orders, the Council will be glad to help you. You will be told if a PTO
is placed on your tree. If you have bought a property with a PTOd tree,
this order should be in the deeds of the property.
