Playing it by Ear:

All Workshops have the same ear-centric approach as the principal to playing by ear is the same for any instrument. Individual skills are required for different instruments & of-course these will be covered too. Emphasis is on the ear though, as whatever your instrument, once you have the skill to be able to play by ear, you will be more able to learn on your own with a lesson now & again to help your technique.

Please see Ear Exercises page for a better idea of what to expect.

Close up of Tenor Sax, Sax workshops, Perthshire

The main thrust of all workshops is to train you to be able to pick up things by ear so in subsequent practicing you will be able to play exactly what you want. Something from your MP3 player, from the TV, or even straight from your head like ‘Happy Birthday to You’, which you may suddenly find you want to play for someone.

You won’t need to find sheet music to play from & you can learn your instrument by playing all your favourite tunes. It’s so limitless in what you can play & such fun that you’re likely to play more & learn faster.

We will be playing along to your tracks as well as reproducing them.

IMPORTANT: In all workshops & private lessons you will be asked to bring some recorded music with you for us to work from . Please take this task seriously & bring something along. Desert Island Disks...
Moody trombone All Workshops are 'Ear-Centric'.
As much time will be spent listening to & analysing music as reproducing it.
